Every now and then you come across a Miracle Worker. Additionally, you may have an opportunity to play a small role in his amazing work.
This is exactly how we felt when we sat down with Dr Yuri Lifshits in his clinic in Kyiv. We get together in a well appointed conference room as Dr. Yuri recounts a myriad health issues his team is trying to battle, while the country is battling the barbaric military aggression from the North, East and South. Dr Yuri is a surgeon who is known for his impressive ability to heal terrible wounds, which would normally require amputation of infected limbs.
We see a large collection of the “before and after” video footage, which is hard to stomach for untrained viewers, such as ourselves. We hear stories about the patients themselves, soldiers and civilians, who were treated at the clinic. Some of these episodes were shown on the Ukrainian TV news channels (watch the ICTV report – 4 min). The healed patients are saying that they were saved by a miracle!
However, there is no magic at work here. Dr Yuri employs the state-of-the-art medical methodologies and technologies to assist him in saving lives and limbs of his patients. It also helps that Dr Yuri had practiced surgery in Germany for a dozen of years and has extensive professional contacts with colleagues all over the world! One of the technologies credited for the performed “miracles” is an ultrasound / irrigation wound therapy system. It is being manufactured in Minnesota and has the approval of the US Food and Drug Administration!
Another important “take away” from this meeting is the understanding of the relatively high cost of each treatment and the medical team’s limited ability to heal those people who require their help! This is where we, the ordinary folks, can step up to the plate!
Here is an idea: The Minnesota-made device used by the clinic in Kyiv was manufactured back in 2006. Needless to say, it has seen its better days and needs to be replaced at the cost of $60,000, plus being able to deliver the hardware to Ukraine.
